Harrods Appoints Lydia King as New Fashion Director

Harrods, the legendary luxury department store located in Knightsbridge, has stunned the fashion industry with its latest hire – Lydia King as the new fashion director. Known for her successful stint as the womenswear buying and merchandising director at rival retailer Selfridges for over 12 years, King brings a wealth of experience and industry knowledge to her new role at Harrods.

During her time at Selfridges, King played a crucial role in shaping the buying strategy for the upscale retailer’s stores and online platforms. Her expertise and leadership skills make her an invaluable addition to Harrods, where she will now be in charge of leading the womenswear and childrenswear buying teams.

In her new capacity, King will be tasked with driving the strategy for these divisions across both the physical store and online platforms. She will collaborate closely with key personnel such as Head of womenswear Maria Milano, Head of childrenswear Elizabeth Cliff, and Head of menswear & sports Simon Longland to ensure a unified and innovative approach to fashion at Harrods.

The timing of King’s appointment is particularly significant as Harrods is currently in the midst of a major £200 million refurbishment project. The aim of this investment is to enhance the store’s appeal to Asian shoppers and create a more contemporary and luxurious shopping environment for all patrons. The recent introduction of a new beauty hall is just the start of the store’s transformation, with a redesign of the menswear department also on the horizon.

In light of King’s recruitment, Harrods Managing Director Michael Ward expressed his enthusiasm about working alongside such a seasoned industry expert. He highlighted their shared vision for the future of fashion at Harrods and the exciting possibilities that await the renowned retailer.

Overall, Lydia King’s transition from Selfridges to Harrods signifies a significant moment in the fashion realm. Her skills and leadership are sure to play a pivotal role in the continued success and evolution of one of the most esteemed department stores in the world.
