Product Guidelines:

  • At ULTIMZ, we categorize our auctions into six main categories:
    • Modern & Contemporary Artworks
    • Prints & Limited Editions
    • Photography
    • Pop Art
    • Street Art
    • Direct from the Artist
  • Further division occurs within each category based on price range and type.
  • To ensure successful acceptance, artworks must exhibit authenticity, content, and condition. Potential buyers are more inclined to engage with an artwork when they can confidently ascertain its authenticity.
  • To substantiate authenticity, you may be required to provide documentation, such as a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), invoices, references to the artist’s catalogue raisonné, provenance details, or documents from the artist’s estate or committee.
  • We are unable to approve a lot if:
    • Doubts exist about attribution, and you cannot provide supporting documents.
    • Concerns arise regarding the artwork’s provenance, and you cannot furnish evidence of purchase and ownership.
    • The artwork’s condition is deemed unsuitable due to damage, or it has undergone extensive restoration.
    • The artwork is deemed unacceptable on legal or other grounds, such as copyright infringement.
  • Please refer to separate guidelines for ‘Prints & Limited Editions’ and ‘Photography.’
  • Each artwork is assessed individually by our experts, with considerations encompassing attribution, provenance, and condition.

Authentication Submission Guidelines:

  • A comprehensive and transparent description plays a pivotal role in attracting potential buyers. Your description should encompass:
    • The artist’s full name, including the year of birth and death.
    • The artwork’s title.
    • The medium/materials utilized in the artwork (e.g., oil on canvas).
    • The overall dimensions of the artwork (in centimeters or inches), including the frame.
    • Details regarding the period and year of creation (when available).
    • Indications of whether the artwork bears signatures, stamps, marks, or dates.
    • Information about the artwork’s edition (original or part of a series).
    • Confirmation of whether the artwork is framed.
    • An assessment of the artwork’s condition.
    • A comprehensive history of the artwork and its provenance.
    • Elements supporting authenticity or attribution, such as references to catalogue raisonné/archive numbers, bibliographies, exhibitions, or any other relevant evidence.

  • Exclusions within the description:
    • Avoid mentioning or linking to external websites or sources to prevent copyright infringement.
    • Refrain from including personal estimates on artworks or any information that may mislead bidders.

Submission Guidelines – Prints & Limited Editions:

  • Lot description should always include:
    • The inner dimensions of the print.
    • Details regarding the edition.
    • Information about signatures, stamps, or watermarks.
  • In lots containing reproduction prints, the description must clearly indicate that it is an “After” piece.
  • Refer to a list of print editions that we cannot accept for publication in our auctions. Such editions may include unauthorized or unknown reproductions, or those that fail to meet our minimum value standards.

Photographs Submission Guidelines:

  • High-quality photographs play a crucial role in capturing the attention of buyers who cannot physically inspect the item. To provide potential buyers with a comprehensive view, submit a minimum of 5 high-quality images featuring:
    • A complete view of the artwork, both with and without its frame, showcasing details, signatures/stamps/editions/watermarks (if applicable), and any indications of damage or restoration. UV light can be used to reveal restoration work if necessary.
    • For paintings, include a photograph of the rear side.
    • For prints, furnish detailed images of numbering, editions, signatures, and watermarks.
    • For sculptures, provide detailed images of the base, signature, numbering, and foundry marks.
    • Ensure a neutral background for photographs.
    • Capture images in natural daylight or with professional lighting, avoiding flash or artificial lighting that can distort colors.
    • Supplement your submission with images of documents supporting authenticity, provenance, as well as references from books or media articles related to the artwork or the artist.
    • Include photos revealing any blemishes, signs of wear, repairs, or restorations to prevent post-sale cancellations.
    • Crop the primary image of the lot to exclude background, frame, or mounting.
    • Use original images to prevent copyright infringement.
    • Avoid including any body parts in the photos; instead, use white gloves when capturing detailed shots.
    • Focus solely on the item(s) you intend to sell, refraining from displaying room details (e.g., furniture, curtains), domestic settings, or outdoor photographs featuring landscapes.
    • Do not employ digital mock-ups of the artwork in an interior setting, images edited in Photoshop, or filters.
