GucciFest 2020: Exploring the World of Fashion Films

GucciFest 2020 made waves in the fashion industry by celebrating young talent through a series of 15 visually stunning fashion films. Directed by Alessandro Michele and Gus Van Sant, the online TV series, Ouverture of Something That Never Ended, featured big names like Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, and Florence Welch. While the series didn’t receive the rave reviews Gucci may have hoped for, it did manage to showcase some impressive work from emerging designers.

One particularly standout film was Stefan Cooke’s Advent, which expertly blended archive footage with a striking collection of clothing. The heritage chic vibes of the video, styled by Alice Goddard and directed by Eddie Whelan, perfectly captured the essence of Cooke’s London-based menswear label.

Collina Strada’s Collina Land took viewers on a surreal journey through a 3D video game world filled with fantastical creatures. Director Charlie Engman’s visionary approach wowed audiences and hinted at a bright future for the brand.

Additionally, Mowalola Ogunlesi’s gaming fashion video, Bianca Saunders’ confessional piece, and Jordan Luca’s The Palace of Kings all brought their own unique flair to GucciFest 2020. From avant-garde storytelling to cutting-edge designs, each film added to the rich tapestry of creativity on display.

Despite mixed reviews for Gucci’s own TV series, the festival as a whole succeeded in shining a spotlight on the diverse talent and innovative storytelling within the fashion industry. Events like GucciFest are essential for nurturing and supporting the next generation of fashion creatives as the industry continues to evolve.
