Gucci Plans New Collection in May 2022

Italian fashion house Gucci, owned by the Kering group, has revealed its plans to stage a new collection in May 2022. This announcement comes after the brand’s co-ed show during Milan Fashion Week in February. After deviating from the traditional seasonal calendar and reducing the number of collections due to the pandemic, creative director Alessandro Michele has decided to return to a more regular schedule.

Gucci’s May collection will be presented in Europe, although the specific location and name of the show have yet to be disclosed. In recent years, Gucci has purposely distanced itself from the official Fashion Week calendar, but it seems that the brand is now changing its strategy. Their most recent fashion show took place in Hollywood in November 2021, marking their return to the catwalk after a two-year absence from Milan Fashion Week.

During the pandemic, Alessandro Michele took the unconventional approach of showcasing collections through videos and virtual presentations. In 2020, he released two collections in the form of short films, one in July and another in November. In 2021, the collection titled “Aria” was virtually showcased in April. With the upcoming February and May shows, Gucci is embracing the traditional runway format once again.

Gucci is evidently eager to regain momentum in 2022. Besides the February and May shows, CEO Marco Bizzarri has confirmed that the brand will present yet another collection in September. This renewed vigor might be a response to the sales slowdown experienced in the third quarter of 2021.

Remarkably, Gucci has decided not to participate in the signature spring Cruise shows this year, instead prioritizing its upcoming shows throughout the year. This shift in focus and the return to a more regular schedule with multiple collection presentations resemble Gucci’s approach before the pandemic.

As fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming shows, Gucci continues to evolve and adapt amidst the ever-changing fashion landscape. With Alessandro Michele at the helm, it is evident that the brand’s creativity and innovation remain integral to its identity.
