Gucci North America Changemaker Scholarships

Gucci has recently unveiled the names of the 22 lucky fashion students who have been chosen as recipients of the highly coveted Gucci North America Changemaker Scholarships for the year 2021. This generous scholarship program, which is valued at an impressive $1.5 million distributed over a span of four years, aims to provide financial support to talented and diverse individuals who are pursuing careers in the exciting field of fashion at undergraduate colleges and universities.

In addition to the substantial academic scholarship amounting to $20,000, each of the selected students will also have the incredible opportunity to benefit from valuable mentorship and virtual internship experiences with Gucci America. The program received a staggering 450 applications from eager students, but after a rigorous selection process, they narrowed it down to the final 22 scholars, consisting of freshmen, juniors, sophomores, and seniors.

The prestigious list includes Akin White from Norfolk State University, Ar’Myiah Lee from Parsons School of Design, Brianna Bryson from Howard University, Clayson Fletcher from Humber College, Diana McCready from Bard College, Jeffrey McCready from Rhode Island School of Design, Keith Herron from Fordham University, Miles Richards from College for Creative Studies, Yetunde Sapp from Parsons School of Design, Zahri Jackson from New York University, Zuri Duarte from The University of California – Los Angeles, Aboubacar Barrie from Georgia Institute of Technology, Beatrice Alisme from Miami Dade College, Dinasty Ly from Fashion Institute of Technology, Elijah Huggins-English from Fashion Institute of Technology, Matthew Williams from Kent State University, Mikaela Mosley from Howard University, Quinten Clifford from Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, John Davillier from University of Southern California, Lacey Garza from Kingsborough Community College, and Kevin Ngo from City College of San Francisco.

Furthermore, as part of their commitment towards diversity and inclusion, Gucci has also announced that D’on Lauren Edwards, a talented senior at the Savannah College of Art and Design, has been named as the prestigious Gucci North America Changemakers x CFDA Scholar by Design. This particular scholarship is specifically dedicated to supporting one exceptional woman of color and provides her with a year’s worth of funding, totaling an impressive $20,000.

The significance of the Gucci North America Changemakers program cannot be overstated. Just ask Miles Richards, a sophomore at the College for Creative Studies, who has been selected as a Gucci Changemakers Scholar for two consecutive years, in both 2020 and 2021. Richards expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the program, emphasizing that it has relieved him of significant financial stress and has given him the freedom to explore and express his creativity as an art major without the burden of mounting tuition fees during his first year.
