Gucci Heirs to Take Legal Action Against ‘House of Gucci’ Film

The heirs of the famed Italian fashion empire Gucci have announced their intention to take legal action against Ridley Scott’s latest film, “House of Gucci,” which they believe portrays their family members in a negative and inaccurate light. The movie has already gained significant attention and is even being considered a potential contender for prestigious awards like the Oscars. However, the Gucci family is deeply troubled by the portrayal of Patrizia Reggiani, played by Lady Gaga, and her depiction as a victim despite her conviction for orchestrating the murder of fashion heir Maurizio Gucci in the 1990s, played by Adam Driver.

In a letter released through Italy’s ANSA news agency, the Gucci heirs, who are descendants of the fashion house’s founder Aldo Gucci, emphasized their right to take all necessary steps to safeguard their family’s name and reputation. They expressed strong disagreement with the film’s representation of Reggiani, who was undoubtedly found guilty for her involvement in arranging the assassination, as well as its portrayal of their deceased relative as “hooligans, ignorant, and insensitive to the world around them.”

The film is directed by Ridley Scott, a renowned British filmmaker responsible for creating timeless classics such as “Blade Runner,” “Alien,” “Gladiator,” and “Thelma and Louise.” However, the Gucci family firmly believes that the movie inaccurately depicts their family members and unjustly tarnishes their image. It is important to note that the Gucci family has had no association with the fashion house since the 1990s as it is now owned by the French conglomerate Kering.

“House of Gucci” premiered in the United Kingdom earlier this month and is scheduled for release in Italy on December 16. As the film continues to garner both critical acclaim and controversy, the Gucci family remains resolute in their determination to protect their name and ensure an accurate representation of their image. Only time will reveal the outcome of their legal action and whether the film will maintain its positive reception amidst the ongoing dispute.
