Gucci Cosmos Retrospective Lands in the Metaverse

Now, the Gucci Cosmos retrospective is making its way to the virtual world as it lands in the metaverse. The highly acclaimed exhibition, which first premiered in Shanghai and has been touring Europe, is now venturing into the digital realm through an unprecedented version designed for The Sandbox.

The Gucci Cosmos exhibition aims to showcase the rich heritage of the iconic Italian brand, spanning from its inception in the 1920s to the creative contributions of its successive artistic directors. The London leg of the exhibition holds a special significance as it sheds light on the historical connection between Guccio Gucci and The Savoy hotel, where he began his career as a porter. The exhibition’s venue is situated just a stone’s throw away from the hotel, adding a local touch to the experience.

In its virtual incarnation, the Gucci Cosmos exhibition takes visitors on an immersive journey through digital scenographies that bring the brand’s archives to life. The Web3 version of the exhibition is available on The Sandbox platform until November 22, offering a unique opportunity to explore the exhibition from anywhere in the world.

To make the virtual experience even more engaging, the initiative includes 15 games presented as quests. Participants have the chance to win coveted digital Gucci Cosmos silhouettes, including one from the brand’s first collection under the artistic direction of Sabato de Sarno. Additionally, there is a prize pool of 100 sand, the virtual currency of The Sandbox, up for grabs.

Gucci’s foray into the metaverse does not end with the exhibition. In early 2022, the luxury fashion house announced its presence on the Discord discussion platform and revealed plans to acquire a “land” on The Sandbox. The Gucci Vault Land was officially launched in October, with the brand aiming to create a universe in its signature style, offering unique experiences to its virtual visitors.

As Gucci continues to embrace the digital realm, the marriage between fashion and technology becomes increasingly pronounced. The brand’s exploration of the metaverse opens up new avenues for creativity and immersive experiences, blurring the lines between the physical and virtual worlds.
