Gucci Collaborates with Dickies on Utilitarian-Style Clothing Collection

Gucci’s experimental department, known as Vault, is closing out the year by collaborating with workwear brand Dickies on a utilitarian-style clothing collection. This partnership comes shortly after the departure of creative director Alessandro Michele, who left the company after over two decades. Despite this change, Gucci, which was the most sought-after brand on the Lyst search engine in the third quarter, continues to engage in collaborative initiatives.

Following a recent capsule collection with Palace, Gucci has now joined forces with Dickies to mark the fashion house’s 100th anniversary in the professional articles industry. The eight-piece capsule collection reimagines Dickies classics, such as the Eisenhower jacket and the iconic 874 work pants from the 90s. Gucci’s experimental section, Vault, designed the line, incorporating studs and eyelets into the garments. Vault, created by Alessandro Michele in 2021, serves as a space for vintage Gucci pieces, items from other brands, and exclusive limited-edition collections. The department has previously collaborated with brands like Luar, Mondo Mondo, Vans, and Wales Bonner.

According to the Dickies website, the collaboration aims to foster a meaningful conversation about the importance of functionality and self-expression. It also pays tribute to the creative contributions of former Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele. Michele’s departure surprised the fashion world, leaving no clear successor for the brand. Currently, Gucci’s in-house design team is responsible for maintaining the brand’s creative vision. Despite these changes, Gucci’s revenue grew by 18% in the third quarter of 2022, reaching 2.58 billion euros.
