Gucci Announces Reappointment of Alessio Vannetti as Chief Brand Officer

Gucci, the renowned luxury brand, has recently announced the reappointment of Alessio Vannetti as its chief brand officer. Vannetti previously worked at Gucci as the global director of communication from 2015 to 2019. After leaving his position as the chief brand officer at Valentino in July, Vannetti has returned to Gucci to play a crucial role in the brand’s relaunch.

Vannetti will be taking over the position from Susan Chokachi, who has been with Gucci for an impressive 25 years. Chokachi played a significant role in strengthening Gucci’s corporate culture and positioning the brand as an industry leader. Vannetti’s appointment is part of an executive reshuffle, with Jean-François Palus now leading Gucci.

In his new role, Vannetti will have the responsibility of brand management, customer engagement, and overseeing the brand’s strategy and image. Gucci is hopeful that Vannetti’s deep understanding and knowledge of the brand will contribute to turning around its performance, which fell below expectations last year.

Gucci experienced a 1% drop in sales, totaling €5.12 billion, in the first half of 2023. Additionally, its current operating income also decreased by 4% to €1.81 billion. To address these challenges, Gucci made the decision to dismiss its iconic creative director, Alessandro Michele, at the end of 2022. Sabato De Sarno was named as Michele’s successor, and he will debut his first collection for Gucci on September 22. Moreover, on the next day, Marco Bizzarri will formally hand over the CEO position to Palus.

Vannetti brings extensive experience in the luxury industry to his new role at Gucci. Prior to joining Gucci in 2015, he held positions at Costume National, the Zegna group, and Prada. Vannetti’s rich background and profound understanding of Gucci’s heritage positioned him as the ideal candidate for leading the brand into the future, according to Palus.

Gucci is currently undergoing significant changes, and Vannetti’s appointment is expected to play a crucial role in steering the brand in the right direction. With a renewed focus on its heritage, values, and brand image, Gucci aims to embark on a new chapter under Vannetti’s leadership.
