Gucci Achieves Carbon Neutrality

Italian luxury brand Gucci has recently announced its achievement of carbon neutrality in its greenhouse gas emissions. This significant step towards environmental responsibility comes after Kering CEO François-Henri Pinault presented the Fashion Pact at the G7 summit two weeks prior. As part of Gucci’s sustainable development policy, known as “CARE,” the brand has set a target to reduce its CO2 emissions by 50% by the year 2025.

Gucci’s dedication to reducing its environmental impact and offsetting its greenhouse gas emissions can be seen through its corporate social responsibility platform, Gucci Equilibrium. In a statement, Marco Bizzarri, President and CEO of Gucci, emphasized the company’s commitment to responsibility and transparency throughout its supply chain. The brand aims to inspire other CEOs from various sectors to take similar actions, recognizing that collective efforts are necessary to create a positive impact on nature and society for both the current decade and future generations.

To achieve carbon neutrality, Gucci is focusing on optimizing its processes to reduce its ecological footprint. This approach is similar to the unique partnership between Stella McCartney and Google. Remaining emissions will be accurately measured through the international Greenhouse Gas protocol, which takes into account emissions from Gucci’s directly controlled locations such as stores and offices, as well as purchased energy, suppliers, and third parties. In order to offset these emissions, Gucci will support four REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) projects that aim to protect forests and biodiversity.

While specific details regarding Gucci’s carbon footprint have not been disclosed, the brand has committed to investing $8.4 million annually to finance the REDD+ projects. Gucci has already calculated and offset its emissions for the year 2018, with calculations for 2019 currently underway.

This achievement highlights Gucci’s dedication to sustainable practices and sets an example for other luxury brands to follow. By seamlessly integrating environmental responsibility into its business model, Gucci is paving the way for a more sustainable future in the fashion industry.
