Great Portland Estates Opens Medici Courtyard in London’s West End

Great Portland Estates (GPE), a prominent London property owner, has announced the opening of its latest development in the West End. The Medici Courtyard, spanning 8,400 square feet, is located within GPE’s mixed-use Hanover development and will be accessible to the public later this month. This will be the first public courtyard to open in Mayfair in over 100 years and aims to enhance the shopping experience in London’s renowned West End.

The unveiling of the Medici Courtyard is accompanied by the arrival of several new retailers and occupants in the Hanover area. Renowned fashion designer Jimmy Choo has launched his innovative fashion academy, known as the Jimmy Choo London Fashion Academy. Situated within one of Mayfair’s Grade II listed buildings, the academy is overseen by Professor Choo himself. In a unique approach that bridges the gap between the commercial and student realms, the GPE development includes a shop where students of the academy can sell their creations.

Alongside the fashion academy, the Medici Courtyard development boasts a range of restaurants, residential units, and 40,000 square feet of luxury retail spaces, primarily facing New Bond Street. Notable occupants of the retail units include Moyes Stevens, a florist with a Royal Warrant, as well as Canali and Pronovias, with the latter set to debut its new Vera Wang Bride line in early 2022.

Marc Wilder, Leasing Director at GPE, describes the project as a rare undertaking in Mayfair that contributes to the transformation of the New Bond Street area. Located within London’s luxury fashion district, the development is poised to become a new mixed-use destination that will shape the future of the city. Furthermore, the imminent opening of the new Elizabeth Line will supplement the development, allowing visitors to stroll through the newly renovated Hanover Square gardens via the development’s new colonnade and Medici Courtyard.

In conclusion, GPE’s West End development, in conjunction with the addition of Jimmy Choo’s fashion academy, signifies the ongoing revitalization of the area following the challenges posed by the pandemic. With its distinctive offerings and prime location, the development is set to leave a lasting impact on London’s retail and fashion scene.
