Giorgio Armani Supports Malaysian Designer Edmund Ooi

Giorgio Armani, a renowned fashion designer known for his ready-to-wear and haute couture lines, is also dedicated to supporting young fashion designers. In line with this, he has chosen to provide Malaysian designer Edmund Ooi with the opportunity to showcase his collection at the prestigious Armani Teatro during the upcoming fashion week.

Giorgio Armani has been actively supporting emerging fashion designers for the past 7 years, giving them a platform to present their collections at his theater. This initiative not only offers visibility to young talents but also serves as a valuable career accelerator.

Expressing his passion for nurturing new talent, Giorgio Armani said, “This project aims to support the new generation of designers, which has fascinated me for several seasons now, as it allows me to see their passion come to life in a concrete way and to have a comprehensive view of this industry.” He further expressed his confidence in Edmund Ooi’s talent and wished him a successful future.

Edmund Ooi, a 24-year-old designer, feels incredibly honored to have been chosen by Giorgio Armani to unveil his spring-summer collection for men at the renowned Armani Teatro. He expressed his emotions and gratitude, saying, “For a young designer like me, words cannot express the emotion and gratitude of being able to unveil my work and the things I believe in to the world.”

Edmund Ooi, originally from Malaysia, kick-started his fashion journey by obtaining degrees in marketing, fashion design, and tailoring. However, it was his time at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, that catapulted his career. His talent was quickly recognized after his first awards, including the “Most Promising Designer Award” and “Best Avant-garde Designer” at the Malaysia International Fashion Awards. Nicola Formichetti, a renowned artistic director, became interested in Edmund Ooi’s creations and decided to sell his second collection at his New York pop-up store. Following this success, Ooi launched his own brand in 2013.

Giorgio Armani has previously invited designers like Christian Pellizzari, Andrea Pompilio, Stella Jean, and Julian Zigerli to showcase their collections at his theater. This commitment to supporting young designers further establishes his reputation as a mentor within the fashion industry.
