German Entrepreneur Philipp Plein Expands into Sportswear Market

German entrepreneur Philipp Plein is embarking on an ambitious expansion into the sportswear market with plans to open 300 Plein Sport stores. Plein, known for his extravagant fashion shows, made the announcement at the High Point furniture show in North Carolina where he also showcased his new collection of interior designs in collaboration with luxury furniture wholesaler, Eichholtz.

The move into sportswear is a significant step for Plein as he aims to compete with major brands like Nike and Adidas. The Plein Sport stores will have a unique self-service concept and will offer vegan products, catering to the growing demand for sustainable and ethical fashion options. Plein aims to open the first 10 stores in Europe between January and February, with plans to open 5 to 10 more stores every month thereafter.

In addition to his expansion plans in the sportswear market, Plein has a range of other projects in the pipeline. He is set to inaugurate a hotel in Milan, organize a show in Paris in November, and host a fashion show in New York. These endeavors are part of Plein’s strategy to establish the Philipp Plein brand and create unforgettable experiences for his customers.

Plein’s upcoming hotel in Milan promises to be a one-of-a-kind establishment, featuring a restaurant, nightclub, shop, and a rooftop pool with cabanas. Plein wants to create a space that doesn’t currently exist in Milan, where people can indulge in luxury and have a truly unique experience.

Apart from expanding his business ventures, Plein is also focused on strengthening his licensing strategy. He has recently launched a fragrance and signed licensing agreements for golf wear in South Korea and watches with Timex. Plein’s goal is to grow his brand and tap into new markets, particularly in the United States. He has already established a strong presence in Las Vegas and recently opened a store in Aventura, Miami. Plein is also eyeing expansion into Brazil and Rio.

In addition to his diverse endeavors, Plein has embraced the world of NFTs (non-fungible tokens) and cryptocurrencies. His fashion brand is the first to accept crypto as a form of payment, and Plein opened a crypto concept-store last year. He believes in the long-term potential of digital currencies and sees it as an exciting opportunity for his brand.
