Genesis and CFDA Award Grace Ling with AAPI Design + Innovation Grant

Genesis, in collaboration with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), has recently awarded Grace Ling with the prestigious AAPI Design + Innovation Grant. This grant was established to support the emerging generation of AAPI fashion designers and promote their talent in the industry. Ling, alongside Andrew Kwon, Haoran Li, and Siying Qu of Private Policy, participated in an intense five-month competition to create a distinctive fashion collection that celebrated their Asian heritage while incorporating modern elements.

The judging panel of industry experts, which included Jodie Chan, Laurent Claquin, Rachel Espersen, Steven Kolb, and Wen Zhou, regarded Ling’s collection as exceptional. Ling drew inspiration from a femme fatale character and skillfully merged innovative techniques like 3D printing with aspects of her Asian roots, creating a striking and contemporary fashion line.

Expressing her gratitude, Ling said, “I am deeply honored to be selected as the recipient of Genesis House’s inaugural AAPI Innovation Grant in partnership with CFDA. Combining modernity, heritage, and innovation in my designs is a privilege. The values and inspiration I received from Genesis House have been invaluable, and I am thrilled to incorporate them into my future endeavors.”

The CFDA | Genesis House AAPI Design + Innovation Grant program was announced in June 2023, solidifying Genesis and CFDA’s commitment to nurturing AAPI fashion designers and providing them with a platform to showcase their talents. Each designer was granted $40,000 by Genesis to support their innovative designs. Ling, as the winner, received an additional $60,000 to further develop her collection, resulting in a total grant award of $100,000.

The winner was announced at an exclusive event hosted at Genesis House, where iconic pieces from renowned AAPI fashion designers were also exhibited. These final designs will be on display at Genesis House until March 3, offering a glimpse into the creativity and artistry of these talented individuals.

Genesis and CFDA’s collaboration in this grant program highlights their dedication to empowering AAPI talent and recognizing the significant contributions of the AAPI community within the American fashion industry. By providing financial support and a platform for these emerging designers, they are paving the way for future success and innovation. Congratulations to Grace Ling, Andrew Kwon, Haoran Li, and Siying Qu of Private Policy, and we eagerly anticipate witnessing their continued achievements and groundbreaking work.
