Galeries Lafayette’s Good Dressing Initiative

In 2016, Galeries Lafayette made a significant move towards sustainability by acquiring the Instant Luxe platform. Although they discontinued this activity shortly after, the company has now taken on a similar strategy by launching its own peer-to-peer resale solution.

Known as the Good Dressing, this service was initially launched as a test and learn initiative at the Galeries Lafayette store in Lyon Part-Dieu. It primarily focuses on a web-to-store strategy, where products are listed and purchased online through a dedicated platform. However, the rest of the transaction occurs in a physical store. Sellers are required to deposit their items exclusively at the Galeries Lafayette Services Click & Collect corner within five days, and buyers can then collect their purchases from there.

To enhance conversion rates, the Good Dressing utilizes a unique method of payment. Instead of using bank transfers, purchases are finalized through a virtual gift card that can be spent within the department store or on the Galeries Lafayette website. This aligns with the store’s overall Go for Good initiative.

To develop this new service, Galeries Lafayette collaborated with Place2Swap, a member of its Plug & Play incubator. Currently, the platform focuses on the resale of ready-to-wear clothing and accessories, excluding shoes and lingerie. While luxury products are prohibited from being sold on the Good Dressing platform, high-end products from brands like Ralph Lauren, Eric Bompard, Red Valentino, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein are allowed.

While the new Galeries Lafayette store on the Champs Elysées is generating buzz with its innovative retail strategy, and the flagship store in Haussmann offers retailtainment with its giant trampoline, the Lyon store stands out with the exclusive Good Dressing service. This is all part of Galeries Lafayette’s broader Go for Good initiative, which aims to promote responsible fashion and a more sustainable industry.
