Galeries Lafayette Appoints Sandra Weber as Head of Strategy and Expansion

Galeries Lafayette, a prominent department store group in France, has chosen Sandra Weber as their new head of strategy and expansion amidst the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic that has presented significant challenges to the retail industry. Despite Galeries Lafayette’s strong presence in France and internationally, the crisis has had an impact on the group, prompting them to seek broader strategic considerations.

Weber brings a wealth of experience in corporate finance and strategy to her new position. Previously, she served as the general counsel of Rallye SA, a Swiss retail group led by Jean-Charles Naouri, from 2015 to 2019. During her tenure at Rallye, Weber played a crucial role in managing various well-known retail chains, including Casino, Cdiscount, and Monoprix.

In her new role at Galeries Lafayette, Weber’s main goal is to assist the group and its subsidiaries in defining and implementing their medium-term strategic vision. She will also be responsible for identifying growth drivers and development opportunities within the ever-evolving retail landscape. Galeries Lafayette believes that Weber’s expertise will be invaluable as the industry undergoes profound transformations and consumer behavior continues to evolve.

Weber has exhibited a knack for navigating complex financial environments throughout her career. Prior to joining Rallye, she spent almost eight years at Goldman Sachs, where she specialized in divestitures and acquisitions in the consumer goods sector. At Goldman Sachs, she held the position of vice president in the firm’s Paris office.

With her in-depth understanding of the distribution sector’s trends and corporate environment, as well as her expertise in divestitures and acquisitions, Weber is well-prepared to assist the Galeries Lafayette group in anticipating and adapting to market transformations in the years ahead. Her appointment reflects the group’s commitment to maintaining its leadership position within the industry.

Galeries Lafayette, which also owns BHV Marais, La Redoute, Royal Quartz Paris, Louis Pion, Mauboussin, and BazarChic, is determined to navigate the challenging retail landscape with a strategic focus on expansion and growth. By appointing Sandra Weber as head of strategy and expansion, the group is taking a proactive approach to ensure its continued success in the face of industry-wide changes. With Weber’s expertise, Galeries Lafayette is well-positioned to address the evolving needs and expectations of its customers while staying ahead of the competition.
