French Startup Hopium Unveils La Machina: The New French Tesla

French startup Hopium recently unveiled La Machina, a carbon-free emission car that runs on hydrogen, positioning it as the “new French Tesla.” Designed by professional race car driver Olivier Lombard, the prototype, named Alpha 0, was showcased at the Viva Technology exhibition, showcasing a potential industry revolution. Hopium has developed a fuel cell that converts air and hydrogen into energy, offering a range of 1000km on a single fill-up, surpassing the current performance of electric vehicles. The company has partnered with Plastic Omnium for the design of the hydrogen tank. La Machina also boasts a three-minute charging time and a top speed of 200km/h, with the potential to increase to 230km/h. Hopium is currently accepting pre-orders for the vehicle, with the aim of delivering the first models in 2025 at a price point of around 120,000 euros. The company has a target of selling 8,000 cars per year by 2030.
