French Federation de la Haute Couture et de la Mode Introduces Digital Tools to Measure and Reduce Fashion House’s Ecological Impact

The French Federation de la Haute Couture et de la Mode is taking steps to measure and reduce the ecological impact of fashion houses participating in the upcoming women’s runway season. In collaboration with consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the Federation has introduced two new digital tools that will be fully operational for Paris Fashion Week this fall.

The first tool allows fashion houses to calculate the best choice of service providers when organizing events like runway shows and presentations. PwC utilized its sustainable development teams and data analytics teams to calculate 120 key performance indicators based on quantitative and qualitative data from the fashion houses. This will enable fashion houses to optimize their social and environmental impact.

The second tool, developed with the Institut Français de la Mode, supports eco-design in fashion collections by measuring the environmental and social impact of the entire industrial value chain. PwC collaborated with its sustainable development teams and data analytics teams to create this tool. Currently being tested, it will be fully operational in September.

The Federation de la Haute Couture et de la Mode has been actively working towards making Paris Fashion Week carbon-zero in terms of transport since 2019. They have employed a fleet of zero-emission DS Automobiles as the official transport for their runway season, and their shuttle buses and scooters are fully electric. Waste at the Paris Fashion Week Center at the Palais de Tokyo is also 100% recycled and recovered.

These initiatives demonstrate the fashion industry’s growing awareness of the environmental impact caused by fashion weeks and the need for sustainable practices. By introducing these digital tools, the French Federation is taking a proactive approach to help fashion houses make informed decisions and reduce their ecological footprints. It is notable that Paris is the first fashion capital to provide such services to its participating fashion houses, signifying a significant step towards a more sustainable future for the industry.
