The French Federation de la Haute Couture et de la Mode has made an important announcement regarding the scheduling of next year’s summer haute couture week in Paris. The dates have been advanced to avoid any overlap with the highly anticipated Paris 2024 Olympics. In order to provide sufficient time and space before the Olympics, the haute couture season will now be held from June 24 to June 27, 2024.
This decision was deemed necessary due to the fact that many of the fashion shows in Paris are traditionally staged in historic city center locations, which will also serve as venues for the Olympic games. Setting up and dismantling spectator stands in these locations requires significant time and coordination. For example, the iconic Grand Palais, often chosen by Chanel for its spectacular runway shows, will be utilized for fencing and taekwondo competitions during the Olympics.
To ensure a seamless coordination between the fashion weeks and the Olympic Games, the Federation has initiated meetings with various relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Culture, the Paris City Council, the Police Prefecture, and the Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games. The objective of these meetings is to foster optimal cooperation and prevent any potential conflicts.
Paris, being the most visited city in the world, has grand plans for the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The city is preparing the largest-ever opening ceremony of any Olympic Games, anticipating an estimated attendance of 600,000 spectators. This extraordinary event will take place along the Seine River, with guests positioned on both the lower and upper quays. Additionally, the city is expecting a staggering total of two million visitors throughout the duration of the games.
Considering the paramount importance of security, especially in light of past incidents involving crowd chaos, the Interior Minister has announced that approximately 30,000 police and gendarmes will be on duty throughout the 17-day Olympics. Furthermore, all Interior staff will be prohibited from taking leave during the games to ensure a smooth operation and enhanced security measures.
Apart from hosting the Summer Olympics, Paris has been chosen as the host city for the Paralympic Games in 2024 as well. Over the course of 12 days, from August 28 to September 8, the Paralympic Games will bring together 4,400 athletes for an exciting competition.
In conjunction with announcing the amended date for the summer haute couture week, the Federation has also released the dates for all six fashion seasons to be held in Paris next year. The schedule includes two seasons each for menswear, women’s ready-to-wear, and haute couture. The Paris Men’s Fashion Weeks will occur from January 16 to January 21, and from June 18 to June 23. The haute couture seasons are scheduled from January 22 to January 25, and from June 24 to June 27. Lastly, the women’s ready-to-wear seasons will take place from February 26 to March 5, and from September 23 to October 1.
With these new dates in place, both the fashion industry and the Olympic Games can now properly plan and prepare to showcase their unique contributions to the vibrant city of Paris in 2024.
