Frasers Group Announces Expansion in Republic of Ireland

Frasers Group, the retail conglomerate owned by billionaire Mike Ashley, has recently announced its plans to expand its presence in the Republic of Ireland. This expansion includes the opening of the first Flannels store outside of the UK in Dublin, along with two more Flannels locations and two Frasers department stores.

The flagship Flannels store will be situated in the famous former Clerys Department store on Dublin’s O’Connell Street. This historic building, initially constructed in 1853, will be transformed into a multi-purpose development called Clerys Quarter. The introduction of this new store promises to bring a fresh and exciting shopping experience to the city.

Additionally, Flannels will be opening two more branches in Ireland, located in the cities of Cork and Blanchardstown. These new stores are expected to launch in the upcoming winter and spring seasons. As a brand known for its luxurious and high-end fashion offerings, these new locations will provide Irish shoppers with access to the latest trends and designer labels.

The Frasers department stores, on the other hand, are set to open in late summer this year. According to a statement from Frasers Group, the stores aim to “bring a consequential boost to the shopping centres they exist within.” The Frasers concept, which has already seen success with the opening of Frasers Wolverhampton in 2021, as well as the renovations of Rushden Lakes, Derry, and Belfast, will offer a wide range of beauty, fashion, and premium accessories.

Frasers Group’s decision to expand into the Republic of Ireland aligns with their strategic plan to acquire 500,000 square feet of vacant space in the country over the past two years. Specifically, they have targeted former Debenhams buildings, with the Frasers locations in Newbridge and Cork being repurposed spaces. This strategic move not only revitalizes these vacant buildings but also contributes to the economic growth of the local communities.

The expansion into Ireland is particularly beneficial for landlords, especially those with former department stores that have proven challenging to fill due to their large size. Frasers Group’s investment in these spaces not only breathes new life into them but also stimulates the local retail industry.

Ultimately, the Frasers Group’s entry into the Republic of Ireland reflects their long-term commitment to growth and expansion. By introducing the popular Flannels and Frasers brands to the Irish market, the company aims to provide Irish consumers with a premium and contemporary shopping experience. With an opening date set for later this year, anticipation and excitement for these new stores are already building.
