Frasers Group Acquires John Anthony

Frasers Group, the retail conglomerate renowned for its rapid acquisition strategy, has once again made headlines with its latest purchase. This time, it has acquired premium menswear retailer John Anthony, although the exact details of the transaction have not been disclosed.

With a legacy spanning 44 years, John Anthony holds a prominent position in the UK menswear market. The retailer currently operates five physical stores located in Bristol, Bournemouth, Bath, Swindon, and Southampton. In addition to its brick-and-mortar presence, John Anthony also operates its own webstore, catering to a wider customer base.

What sets John Anthony apart from its competitors is its impressive array of designer collections, featuring both emerging and highly sought-after labels. Customers can find renowned brands such as Acne Studios, Belstaff, Cole Buxton, Fred Perry, Hoka, Hugo, Vivienne Westwood, and Dsquared2 at John Anthony.

Recent filings with Companies House reveal that the previous owners of John Anthony, namely Mark Brewer, Alastair Irvine, and Tony Stuckes, are no longer associated with the business in directorial roles.

Frasers Group has gained a reputation for acquiring businesses at competitive prices, and its recent notable purchases further strengthen this notion. The conglomerate has acquired substantial stakes in Boohoo Group, N Brown, and ASOS. Additionally, Frasers Group has completed the acquisition of MySale, multiple brands from JD Sports, SneakerBoy, Gieves & Hawkes, and the renowned shopping center known as The Mall. It is worth mentioning that Frasers Group has also divested from a previous acquisition, Missguided.

Given Frasers Group’s track record and its pursuit of strategic acquisitions, speculation has arisen about the conglomerate’s potential interest in acquiring Browns, assuming struggling retailer Farfetch decides to sell it.

The future of John Anthony remains uncertain, leaving questions about whether the brand will continue independently or become integrated into one of Frasers Group’s existing operations. Notably, Frasers Group already operates Flannels, a luxury fashion chain that offers a wide range of clothing for both men and women, as well as beauty products.
