Frasers Group, led by Mike Ashley, has recently acquired Belfast’s Boucher Shopping Park as part of its larger elevation strategy. The purchase was made from Corbo Properties, represented by Sam Morrison, although the exact sale price was not disclosed. Despite the increasing shift to online shopping accelerated by the pandemic, Frasers Group remains actively involved in the UK retail market, particularly in terms of opening and acquiring physical spaces. The company sees its investments in retail parks as a significant commitment to physical shopping.
The current retail market has seen many retail parks being put up for sale as property giants and smaller landlords adjust their business strategies. Frasers Group has been selective in its retail park investments, and the acquisition of Boucher Shopping Park aligns with its overall strategy. James France, the Head of Property at Frasers Group, emphasized the strategic location of Boucher Road as the primary out-of-town retail destination in Northern Ireland. The retail park boasts a strong lineup of retailers and has already attracted Frasers’ Sports Direct chain along with several fashion retailers. The acquisition not only strengthens Frasers Group’s presence in the Irish market but also provides the opportunity for further investment and modernization of the park, aiming to create an aspirational shopping destination.
In the past, retail parks were primarily occupied by large DIY stores and supermarkets. However, in recent years, they have become increasingly popular among high street fashion and beauty businesses, as well as more upscale operators. Currently, Boucher Shopping Park is home to Frasers’ Sports Direct chain and other fashion retailers. It is highly likely that more Frasers-owned stores will open in the park in the future, showcasing the company’s dedication to expanding its retail park portfolio.
