The Spring/Summer 2024 collection showcased models draped in silk corolla dresses and lace petticoats, walking on strewn straw and carrying wicker baskets filled with dried laurel leaves. Accompanied by the a cappella polyphonies performed by the Sarocchi Ensemble, the models reverberated the folk songs of traditional Corsican music.
Sorbier explained that the inspiration for this collection came from the healing chants of shepherdesses, a theme that holds great significance in today’s world. His intention was to explore a humanistic haute couture that would create a soothing and enchanting experience for the wearer.
Every piece in the collection was painstakingly crafted by Sorbier and his wife, Isabelle Tartière. Their commitment to their craft was evident in the floral motifs that adorned the garments, featuring sunflowers, poppies, daisies, and cardabelles reminiscent of tapestry fabrics from the 1950s and 1960s. Artfully scattered fabric wildflowers created a disassembled bouquet effect on skirts and robes.
Sorbier’s haute couture defies expectations, as he fosters a genuine connection with nature rather than embodying the usual solemn or diva-like image associated with the industry. His designs exalt the divas of the fields, reflecting a desire for comfort and ease. Although the ensembles may have appeared classic, with bodices, tailored jackets, strapless gowns, draped skirts, and fans, the materials used were far from ordinary. Raffia weaving, colorful scoubidou cords, and intricately macraméd patterns were seamlessly integrated into the designs. Sorbier’s unique technique of stitching different materials together, called “compression,” breathed life into the fabrics.
To further enhance the exclusivity and artistry of his designs, Sorbier incorporated countless imperceptible precious details into each garment. Seashells discreetly adorned the bodices and hems of dresses, golden tulle dresses were adorned with trimmings and metallic threads, and satin jackets featured beaded motifs and organic guipure lace. Some ensembles showcased a mosaic of artistry, incorporating 20 different types of lace that were intricately cut, applied, and inlaid.
Sorbier is passionate about propelling the world of haute couture forward. Acknowledging the changing desires of younger clients, he believes the industry cannot remain stagnant and must adapt. Instead of creating generic Cinderella-like dresses, Sorbier aims to offer exclusivity and collaboration to his clients, enabling them to experience renewed emotions through his designs.
