On April 5th, an exhibition dedicated to the artistic partnership between Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol was inaugurated at the Fondation Louis Vuitton. This captivating display features 84 artworks co-signed by the two artists.
Shining a Spotlight on Basquiat and Warhol’s Shared Vision
Building upon the tremendous success of the 2018 Jean-Michel Basquiat exhibition, which drew a staggering 700,000 visitors, the Fondation Louis Vuitton aims to generate the same level of excitement by exploring the artistic camaraderie between Warhol and Basquiat.
Running until August 28th, this immersive experience offers the public a glimpse into the collaborative works of these two American icons. Visitors will have the opportunity to admire drawings, paintings, photographs, and engaging exchanges between the two creative powerhouses from the 1980s. A particular highlight includes a compelling series of cross-portraits featuring Basquiat by Warhol and Warhol by Basquiat. This exhibition stands as one of the largest and most comprehensive showcases of their joint artistic endeavors, curated by Dieter Buchhart and Anna Karina Hofbauer in collaboration with Olivier Michelon.
Reflecting on this extraordinary collaboration, Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH, expressed, “This exhibition invites us to live in the present moment, within the galleries of the Fondation, and experience one of the most impactful chapters in the art of the second half of the 20th century. Following its Paris debut, the exhibition will travel across the Atlantic to the Brant Foundation in New York, commencing in late October 2023.
