FKA twigs Directs Captivating Film ‘Playscape’ for International Woolmark Prize

FKA twigs, in collaboration with The Woolmark Company and the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum, has directed a new film titled “Playscape” to showcase the final collection looks from the finalists of the International Woolmark Prize. This captivating film explores the concept of play as a creative catalyst and is creatively directed by Zak Group, with choreography by Juliano Nunes.

The film draws inspiration from Isamu Noguchi, a renowned sculptor known for his innovative “playscapes” that invited the public to interact with sculptures in unique ways. FKA twigs blends influences from fashion, art, dance, and music to create an immersive showroom experience that brings Noguchi’s vision of play to life.

Starting in an empty gallery filled with Noguchi’s play sculptures, the film gradually introduces a diverse ensemble cast of characters who bring the sculptures to life. The second part of the film takes the cast into an imaginary landscape, fusing ballet with elements of hip-hop, modernism, contemporary dance, and punk aesthetics.

The film features notable guest appearances from creative, activist, and model Kai-Isaiah Jamal, DJ and dancer Kiddy Smile, and DJ and artist Princess Julia, adding excitement and glamour to the already captivating visual experience.

“Playscape” serves as a unique and captivating way to showcase the creativity of the International Woolmark Prize. The winners of the esteemed prize will be announced during a live event in London on April 26, with a judging panel that includes industry luminaries such as Burberry creative chief Ricardo Tisci, supermodel Naomi Campbell, and Byredo founder Ben Gotham, among others.

The International Woolmark Prize is highly respected in the fashion industry, acknowledging emerging talent and the innovative use of wool in design. This year’s prize has embraced the intersection of fashion, art, and creativity with FKA twigs taking the helm of the film and the collaboration with the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum.
