Finalists Revealed for 2022 Australian Fashion Laureate

IMG has recently announced the finalists for the highly esteemed 2022 Australian Fashion Laureate, an award that honors prominent leaders and innovators in the Australian fashion industry. The announcement, made on Tuesday, revealed an impressive lineup of nominees across various categories, including Designer of the Year, Emerging Designer of the Year, Sustainable Innovation, and the People’s Choice Award.

In the Designer of the Year category, the nominees include Adrian Norris and Edwina Forest from Aje, Camilla Freeman-Topper and Marc Freeman from Camilla and Marc, Christopher Esber, and Rachel Gilbert. These fashion powerhouses will be competing against each other for the coveted title.

For the Emerging Designer of the Year award, Alix Higgins, Jordan Dalah, Jordan Gogos from Iordanes Spyridon Gogos, and Lesleigh Jermanus from Alémais are the talented contenders. This category highlights the up-and-coming talents in the Australian fashion scene.

This year, the finalists include Denni Francisco from Ngali, Laura Thompson from Clothing The Gaps, TJ Cowlishaw from Aarli, and Liandra Gaykamangu from Liandra Swim. Their designs beautifully combine cultural heritage with contemporary aesthetics.

In addition, fashion enthusiasts can participate in the People’s Choice Award by voting for their favorite Australian fashion designer from a list of finalists curated by IMG and Afterpay. This category allows the public to have a voice in recognizing outstanding talent in the industry.

The event will also introduce a new award, The Carla Zampatti Award for Excellence in Leadership, as a tribute to the late Australian designer Carla Zampatti. The winner of this award will be announced during Zampatti’s retrospective exhibition at the Powerhouse Ultimo on November 23.
