Italian fashion house Fendi is currently hosting an exhibition called “Hand in Hand” at the Palazzo della Civilta Italiana in Rome, showcasing the craftsmanship of Italian artisans. The exhibition, which was originally supposed to run until November 28th, has been extended until January 9th, allowing more people to appreciate the beauty of these handcrafted pieces. In addition to the physical exhibition, Fendi has also created a virtual tour, making the showcase accessible to a wider audience online.
The centerpiece of the exhibition is the iconic Baguette bag, designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi in 1997. This bag serves as a canvas for showcasing around twenty traditional production techniques, each representing a specific region in Italy. Only 20 editions of each bag are available, and the interior pocket of each creation bears the name of the workshop and its location, accompanied by the “Fendi Hand in Hand” logo.
To provide insight into the intricate craftsmanship behind these bags, Fendi has incorporated videos into the exhibition, showcasing the different production processes. By doing so, they aim to shed light on the skilled artisans who bring these bags to life. Silvia Venturini Fendi, Artistic Director for the Men’s Collections and Accessories, expressed her desire to explore all the regions of Italy, handpick the best artisans, and ultimately expand the project globally.
This emphasis on Italian craftsmanship aligns with Bottega Veneta’s recent project, “Bottega For Bottegas,” which aims to promote various trades and provide visibility to smaller entities, especially during the ongoing pandemic. Bartolomeo Rongone, CEO of Bottega Veneta, noted the importance of supporting these artisans who have been impacted by the pandemic.
