Fendi Celebrates Italian Artisans with ‘Hand in Hand’ Exhibition

The fashion house Fendi is currently celebrating the craftsmanship of artisans from all over Italy through an exhibition called “Hand in Hand.” The exhibition showcases traditional production techniques from different regions, such as tapestry weaving from Ulassai in Sardinia, lace from Nardo in Apulia, and marquetry from Sorrento in Campania.

The highlight of the exhibition is the iconic Baguette bag, originally designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi in 1997. The bag serves as inspiration for a series of variations that incorporate around twenty different traditional know-hows. Each bag is produced in a limited edition of 20 copies and is labeled with the name and location of the workshop it originated from, along with a “Fendi Hand in Hand” logo.

To enhance the visitor’s experience, the exhibition features videos detailing the different production processes behind each bag. The goal of the project, according to Silvia Venturini Fendi, is to explore all the Italian regions and select the best artisans who still practice their craft today. Furthermore, Fendi aims to expand the project worldwide in the future.

In addition to the physical exhibition, there is also a virtual tour available on a dedicated page. This allows people who are unable to visit the exhibition in person to experience the beauty and craftsmanship of the showcased bags.

The “Hand in Hand” exhibition by Fendi is open to the public until November 28, 2021, at the Palazzo della Civilta Italiana in Rome. Access to the exhibition is free, but reservations are required.
