Fausto Puglisi’s Roberto Cavalli Pre-Fall Collection

Fausto Puglisi recently revealed his pre-fall collection for Roberto Cavalli, which showcases a captivating blend of American and Italian influences. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant cultures of the United States, Puglisi incorporated elements of Blaxploitation imagery, bold colors, and afro hairstyles into his designs. Influential women such as Millicent Rogers and Georgia O’Keefe also served as a source of inspiration for the collection.

The collection boasts a wide range of stunning pieces. Notably, a black model with a beautiful afro showcased a double-faced coat in bitter orange and caramel, paying homage to the legendary Nina Simone. This particular look was presented during a glamorous dinner event held at the Old Spanish Monastery in Miami. The historic venue, which dates back to the 12th century, was dismantled and later imported to the USA by William Randolph Hearst before being rebuilt in the 1960s.

Puglisi ingeniously blended Italian and American styles in his collection. He incorporated 70s retro flared pants, taking inspiration from the popular show Starsky and Hutch. Additionally, he created chocolate and black leather patchwork coats reminiscent of the iconic character Shaft. The collection also features oversized plaid layered governess dresses and corduroy suits, evoking a touch of Northwest grunge.

Staying true to Roberto Cavalli’s mastery of prints, Puglisi showcased Wild Leda Renaissance prints on elegant gowns during a special installation at the Bal Harbor boutique. He also created eye-catching photo prints of real leather on shearling and knits for the pre-fall collection. The collection includes a combination of real and faux fur in shearling pieces, staying true to the brand’s recognizable style.

Puglisi incorporated knits inspired by Krizia’s jacquard designs from the 80s, including a standout Tiger head sweater in brown and orange for women and black and white for men. For eveningwear, Puglisi designed leopard print cocktail dresses and plunging cheetah tops, complemented with Santa Fee green western jewelry. The looks are finished off with suede platform boots for women and black leather shirts with prints of a vampire in a cheetah print dress for men.

In addition to the vibrant prints and colors, the collection also includes more understated styles with Prince of Wales, gingham, and check patterns in suits, blazers, shirts, and kilts for men.

After a year of exploring various cities in the United States, Puglisi plans to stay in Italy this month to prepare for the upcoming Cavalli runway show in Milan. He eagerly anticipates spending the holiday season in his native Sicily, where he can reconnect with loved ones and find inspiration in the breathtaking beauty of the Mediterranean sea.

During his time in Sicily, Puglisi aims to relax and reflect, allowing himself the opportunity to reevaluate ideas and draw in new inspiration. As seen in his transatlantic Roberto Cavalli pre-fall collection, Puglisi continuously pushes boundaries and creates fashion that embraces diversity and honors powerful women.
