Fauré Le Page: From Armory to Leather Goods

Did you know that Fauré Le Page, a leather goods brand established in 1707, initially gained recognition in the field of armory? Founded by Louis Pigny and later taken over by his nephew Pierre Le Page, the Maison has a rich history as an arquebusier, creating pistols, bladed weapons, and rifles for the aristocracy and royal courts. The craftsmanship of Fauré Le Page involves collaboration with skilled artisans from various trades, such as engravers, gilders, and goldsmiths, to produce exceptional pieces like King Louis XVI’s hunting rifles and Napoleon Bonaparte’s gilded sword.

Throughout its existence, Fauré Le Page has embraced innovation, which has contributed to its longevity. The Maison’s creations have received recognition and awards at the Universal Exhibitions held in Paris, London, and Vienna. Despite its origins in armory, Fauré Le Page has now specialized in leather goods. The brand’s reputation has garnered mentions in literary works by renowned authors like Honoré de Balzac and Alexandre Dumas.

Fauré Le Page’s iconic print, named Écailles, is a testament to its military roots. The print, found in different color harmonies like red ivresse, green empire, blue de Paris, steel grey, walnut brown, and warm sand, combines elements of power and strategic beauty. Achieved through the technique of “impression à la lyonnaise,” where colors are meticulously scraped onto coated cotton canvas, the Écailles pattern creates a textured effect. The addition of Ocre de Mars-colored lettering further enhances the design, paying tribute to the Roman god of war.

Under the direction of Augustin de Buffévent, who previously held a position at Christian Dior Couture USA, Fauré Le Page has experienced a revitalization since 2010. The Maison remains true to its motto, “Armed to seduce,” by offering a diverse range of creations in categories like day weapons, ceremonial weapons, handguns, pocket weapons, and bounty hunters. Each item can be personalized with medals, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to the language of warfare.
