Fast Retailing Announces Strategic Transformation for J Brand

Fast Retailing, the parent company of J Brand, has recently announced a strategic plan to revamp the business model of its premium denim brand. This transformation will involve a shift towards direct distribution, which is consistent with a growing trend within the premium brands segment on a global scale. Moving forward, J Brand will be exclusively available through selected direct-to-consumer channels operated by Fast Retailing, starting with the upcoming Summer 2021 collection.

As part of this overarching strategy, there will be a reduction in the current J Brand workforce in the upcoming months to realign with the restructured corporate framework. The company remains dedicated to driving innovation in sustainable denim development and will continue to support denim production through the Fast Retailing Jeans Innovation Center based in Los Angeles.

Kazumi Yanai, who serves as the chairman of J Brand and holds the position of group senior executive officer at Fast Retailing, underscored the necessity for a shift in the existing business model to ensure long-term success for the brand. By transitioning towards direct distribution, the goal is to breathe new life into the iconic denim label and thrive in a competitive market. Yanai stressed Fast Retailing’s unwavering commitment to J Brand and the denim industry in general, highlighting the importance of agile adaptation to cater to evolving consumer preferences.

Fast Retailing envisions that J Brand will reap the benefits of a more streamlined operation, an enhanced distribution network, and a laser focus on the lifestyle of its end customers. With a global emphasis on LifeWear, Fast Retailing intends to position J Brand as a significant player in the ever-changing denim landscape. This strategic plan underscores Fast Retailing’s steadfast dedication to driving innovation and sustainability within the fashion sector.
