Fashion label Off-White appoints Ibrahim Kamara as new artistic director

Fashion label Off-White has announced the appointment of Ibrahim Kamara as its new artistic director, following the passing of founder Virgil Abloh six months ago. The news was shared on Instagram, a platform that played a significant role in the relationship between Abloh and Kamara. Kamara, a British designer who was born in Sierra Leone and raised in Gambia, will be responsible for overseeing a collective of creators and leading the artistic direction of Off-White’s collections, image, and content.

“Andrea Grilli, CEO of Off-White, emphasized how they have worked tirelessly to preserve Abloh’s legacy and maintain the brand’s influence and relevance as a leading platform. Inspired by Abloh’s vision and artistic approach, Off-White has curated a collective of talented individuals who share a strong connection with Abloh,” Grilli stated.

Kamara, with his extensive experience in fashion and editorial, having studied at Central Saint Martins and worked for notable magazines like i-D and Dazed, expressed his gratitude in becoming Off-White’s Director of Art and Image. He looks forward to joining a team that is ready to continue the story that Abloh started.

This announcement comes at a significant juncture for Off-White, as the brand recently entered the beauty industry with its Paperwork project. Kamara’s expertise and unique perspective are expected to play a vital role in shaping the brand’s future endeavors and maintaining its position as a trailblazer in fashion.

Virgil Abloh’s impact on the fashion industry is immeasurable. His innovative approach and boundary-pushing designs have left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to have experienced his work. As Off-White moves forward under Ibrahim Kamara’s leadership, there is no doubt that the brand will continue to honor Abloh’s legacy while carving out its distinctive path in the constantly evolving fashion landscape.
