Fashion Industry Embraces the Metaverse

Roksanda and Jonathan Simkhai have taken a groundbreaking step by embracing the metaverse in their fashion week initiatives. Both designers are showcasing the power and influence of digital and virtual elements in the fashion industry. Roksanda has partnered with Clearpay, a sponsor of London Fashion Week (LFW), to bring digitization, accessibility, and innovation to fashion lovers everywhere.

One of the key outcomes of this collaboration is the creation of an exclusive demi couture finale look from Roksanda’s upcoming show, in the form of a non-fungible token (NFT). This marks the first foray into the metaverse for both Clearpay and the luxury label. While the physical demi couture finale look will be unveiled on the runway during Roksanda’s LFW showcase, the digital version enables consumers to obtain tangible access to high-end fashion in a way that was previously impossible. A remarkable augmented reality (AR) function even allows consumers to virtually try on the NFT. The NFT is available in three limited-edition products, each offering different levels of digital renders and showcases.

Nick Molnar, CEO of Clearpay, expressed pride in democratizing fashion and enabling consumers to engage with Roksanda’s artistry in an innovative way. This collaboration holds the potential to revolutionize the fashion industry by providing a seamless bridge between physical and digital fashion experiences.

In parallel to Roksanda’s initiative, Metaverse Fashion Week, organized by Everyrealm and Blueberry Entertainment, took place. The first designer to make an appearance at this unique event was Jonathan Simkhai, who showcased his Fall/Winter 2022 digital wearables collection one day before the physical presentation at New York Fashion Week (NYFW). For the first time ever, a designer revealed their collection digitally before the physical showcase. Blueberry Entertainment, a renowned digital wearables production studio, was responsible for transforming Simkhai’s designs into digital wearables, further blurring the boundaries between the real and virtual worlds. Everyrealm, a prominent metaverse real estate investor and developer, coordinated the production and hosted an NFT sale of selected wearables from the collection.

The event itself was a gathering of VIP guests from the fashion, tech, and lifestyle industries, comprising models, influencers, celebrities, and journalists. To make the experience even more extraordinary, these guests appeared as personalized avatars dressed in Jonathan Simkhai’s creations. The last look of the show, a stunning gold gown, gradually lost its components as the avatar moved down the metaverse runway, showcasing an effect that can only be achieved in the virtual realm.

These groundbreaking initiatives by Roksanda and Jonathan Simkhai are undeniable evidence of the fashion industry’s embrace of the digital world and its eagerness to leverage the potential of the metaverse. By integrating NFTs, augmented reality, and digital wearables, these designers are expanding accessibility and creating innovative experiences for fashion enthusiasts worldwide.
