Fashion for Good and FastFeetGrinded Partner to Increase Utilization of Recycled Materials in Shoe Industry

Fashion for Good, a global platform dedicated to sustainable fashion, has partnered with FastFeetGrinded, a groundbreaking footwear recycling innovator, to launch a major project focused on increasing the utilization of recycled materials in the shoe industry. The initiative has garnered support from prominent brands such as Adidas, Inditex, Target, and Zalando, highlighting the industry’s commitment to finding sustainable solutions.

The fashion industry faces a significant challenge when it comes to shoe waste. With a staggering 24 billion shoes making their way to the market each year, an alarming 90% of them end up in landfills or being incinerated. This alarming statistic underscores the urgent need for sustainable alternatives, and FastFeetGrinded’s cutting-edge technology offers a viable solution.

FastFeetGrinded specializes in deconstructing any type of pre- and post-consumer shoe, breaking them down into their macro-components. These components are then transformed into high-purity granulates, which can be repurposed for various applications. By partnering with Fashion for Good and leading brands, FastFeetGrinded aims to revolutionize the recycling process for footwear.

The pilot collaboration involves redirecting pre- and post-consumer footwear from partner brands to FastFeetGrinded. The company will then transform these shoes into new material granulates. These granulates will be utilized by FastFeetGrinded’s extensive network of supply chain partners to produce various components, including outsoles, midsoles, and flip flops. The brands involved will meticulously assess the quality and purity of these products, demonstrating the potential of footwear recycling technology and paving the way for scalable solutions.

Currently, FastFeetGrinded operates from a 4,000 square meter facility, but has plans for global expansion. This collaboration with Fashion for Good and major brands marks a significant step toward a more sustainable future for the fashion industry. By leveraging innovative recycling processes, these companies aim to reduce shoe waste and promote the use of recycled materials, ultimately contributing to a circular economy within the fashion sector.
