Fashion Designers Katharine Hamnett and Patrick McDowell Launch ‘HELP’ Collection

Fashion designer Katharine Hamnett and fashion reimagined specialist Patrick McDowell have joined forces to launch a collection called ‘HELP’ on Hamnett’s webstore. The collection focuses on supporting British businesses and addressing the negative impact of Brexit.

The ‘HELP’ collection involves upcycling and reimagining past season pieces, such as Hamnett’s teddy jackets and slogan T-shirts. The revamped pieces feature a monochrome color palette with a pop of red, and McDowell has played a pivotal role in the reimagining process in London. Water-based screen printers, mesh, and blade techniques have been utilized to give the jackets a fresh twist. The slogan tees, on the other hand, are made using GOTS Certified cotton and printed in the UK.

Brexit has had a significant effect on British sustainable designers and the fashion industry as a whole. Increased import charges, delivery delays, and additional paperwork have presented major obstacles. In response, Hamnett and McDowell have taken a stand with their collaboration, symbolizing the importance of unity and collective action in overcoming challenges.

Hamnett emphasizes that the current situation can only be addressed through collective efforts. The ‘HELP’ message underscores the need for solidarity and mutual support. McDowell shares the sentiment, describing working with Hamnett as a dream come true. He believes Hamnett represents the perfect blend of fashion and conscious sustainability. McDowell also criticizes Brexit as a poor decision that lacks organization and conviction, which has been detrimental to sustainable fashion designers in the UK.

With the launch of this collection, Hamnett and McDowell hope to raise awareness about the difficulties faced by British sustainable designers in the post-Brexit era. They aim to emphasize the importance of supporting local businesses and finding innovative solutions in challenging circumstances. Ultimately, their collaboration showcases how unity and creativity can overcome adversity.
