Fashion Designer Karl Lagerfeld Passes Away

Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, who was also a photographer and stylist, passed away at the age of 85 on February 19, 2019, at the American Hospital in Neuilly-sur-Seine. Lagerfeld, originally from Hamburg, made his mark in the fashion world after moving to Paris in the 1950s. Being discreet about his date of birth, little was known about his early life and personal details.

Speculation about Lagerfeld’s health had arisen due to his absence from Chanel’s latest Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2019 fashion show, where he had been the artistic director since 1983. Given his impressive career working for renowned brands like Balmain, Jean Patou, and Chloé, Lagerfeld also took charge of women’s creations for the Italian brand Fendi in 1965. In addition, he established his own self-titled brand.

Famously known as “the Kaiser of Fashion,” Lagerfeld was recognized for his distinctive style, appreciation for literature, and often controversial remarks. One of his remarkable traits was his ability to continuously reinvent himself by seamlessly blending traditional elements with contemporary influences.

The influential impact Lagerfeld has made on the fashion industry will undeniably endure. His creative brilliance and contributions have undoubtedly left an indelible mark and will serve as a constant source of inspiration for future generations of designers. As the fashion world mourns his loss, Lagerfeld’s significant influence on fashion and beyond will always be cherished.
