Farfetch Unveils Tekla Red Sleepwear Collection

Luxury fashion retailer Farfetch has unveiled its newest concept retail series, Farfetch Beat, which aims to provide exclusive product experiences to a global audience. The third release of the series is a collaboration with Tekla Fabrics, resulting in a limited edition sleepwear range called Tekla Red.

The inspiration behind the Tekla Red sleepwear collection comes from Trisha Brown’s renowned performance called ‘Roof Piece’ in 1971, where dancers adorned vibrant red outfits and moved across the rooftops of New York’s SoHo district. Each sleepwear set in the collection is delicately embroidered with a commemorative message and features a reproduction of an archival poster that announced the 1973 performances of ‘Roof Piece’.

Limited to only 25 sets, the Tekla Red sleepwear range offers single sets priced at £110 and double sets at £180. Made from 100% organic cotton, the collection ensures both comfort and sustainability.

To mark the launch on September 7th, model and actress Lily McMenamy has reinterpreted the performance for TikTok, with guidance from Movement Director Jaime Scott from the Trisha Brown Dance Company. The sleepwear is designed with a unisex, oversized fit, using crisp and lightweight cotton to allow for freedom of movement, reminiscent of the dancers in the original performance.

In addition to the sleepwear collection, there is a range of bedding available, woven with a 200 thread count and lightly stonewashed for a soft and crisp finish. The bedding serves as a starting point for McMenamy’s performance, where she awakens from a red bed placed on a rooftop. This collaboration between fashion and dance aims to bring the influence and inspiration of the Trisha Brown Dance Company into a new environment and context.

Anne Boissonnault, Archive Director of the Trisha Brown Dance Company, expressed her excitement about seeing Trisha’s iconic work being reimagined for the fashion world. Alongside the limited edition Tekla Red sleepwear collection, Tekla has also produced classic poplin sleepwear and percale bedding in a striking new Red colorway, inspired by the original costumes from the 1971 performance. These additional pieces are available for purchase on Farfetch.com and Teklafabrics.com.

Farfetch Beat continues to push the boundaries between fashion, art, and performance. Through collaborations like the one with Tekla Fabrics, the retailer offers customers unique and exclusive product experiences. The launch of the Tekla Red sleepwear range combines the worlds of dance and fashion, resulting in a truly special collection that showcases creativity and innovation.
