Exciting Transformation Ahead: York Designer Outlet Expansion Project

York Designer Outlet is set to undergo an exciting transformation with the addition of 25 new shops, restaurants, and parking areas. The outlet, already a popular destination for luxury shopping with brands like Michael Kors, Kate Spade, and Polo Ralph Lauren, aims to elevate the shopping experience for its 4.5 million annual visitors.

The ambitious expansion project, estimated to cost over £40 million, is designed to create a more dynamic retail and dining environment, along with a state-of-the-art parking facility and enhanced Park & Ride services. Following positive feedback from two public consultations held in June, the outlet is proceeding with its planning application, moving closer to turning its vision into reality.

McArthurGlen, the owner of York Designer Outlet, expects the expansion to not only introduce approximately 500 new jobs to the area but also bring in an additional £3.4 million in employment income. The economic benefits of the development are anticipated to have a ripple effect on the local community, supporting growth in the region.

Center manager Mike Thomas is enthusiastic about the potential impact of the project, emphasizing that the plans would not only create job opportunities but also improve parking convenience at the outlet. Additionally, securing the future of the YDO Park & Ride service aligns with the broader sustainability and carbon reduction goals of York.

Through collaborative efforts with the local council and community, York Designer Outlet aims to enhance the overall shopping experience and drive economic growth in the area. The decision on the planning application is expected later this year, setting the stage for a transformed and revitalized outlet destination.
