Emmanuelle Alt Removed as Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Paris

Emmanuelle Alt, the editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, has been removed from her position as part of the recent wave of layoffs at Condé Nast International. This shake-up also included the dismissals of Olivier Lalanne, editor of GQ France and Vogue Hommes, and Joseph Ghosn, editorial director of Vanity Fair France. Jennifer Neyt, who oversaw Vogue Paris’s website, was also reportedly let go. These editorial cuts are part of a larger restructuring effort at Condé Nast International, which has seen Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue, gaining more power as Global Editorial Director of the magazine group. Wintour now has oversight over numerous international editions.

Condé Nast has been actively making changes within the company over the past year, replacing editors-in-chief of Vogue editions in Brazil, China, Germany, India, and Spain. Margaret Zhang has been named as the successor to lead Vogue China. While Emanuele Farneti and Edward Enninful have retained their positions as editors of Italian and British Vogue respectively, the future for European editions remains uncertain. There is speculation that Enninful may eventually oversee a series of unified European editions.

Under the leadership of CEO Roger Lynch, Condé Nast has been working towards reducing costs and improving profitability. The company has been on a firing spree and these recent dismissals are part of the ongoing efforts to streamline operations. Although a spokesperson for Condé Nast France declined to confirm the dismissals, sources indicate that Alt informed her team at Vogue Paris about her departure. Alt, who had served as deputy to Carine Roitfeld before becoming editor-in-chief in 2011, was known more for her longevity in the role rather than her creativity.

The future of Vogue Hommes remains uncertain, with rumors suggesting that it may be the next publication to be shut down. Condé Nast France currently publishes Vogue Paris, GQ, Vogue Hommes, Vanity Fair, and Architectural Digest.
