Emerging Labels Shine at Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week not only showcased the latest collections from well-known fashion houses but also served as a platform for the up-and-coming talents of the Italian fashion scene. Among these rising stars were three emerging labels: Magliano, Jordanluca, and Federico Cina, who left a lasting impression with their unique styles and creative visions for Spring/Summer 2024.

Luca Magliano, who won the prestigious Karl Lagerfeld prize at the LVMH competition for his label Magliano, carefully curated his show against the backdrop of a construction site. This choice held symbolic meaning, representing progress and the importance of moving forward. Winning this prize has brought immense pride to Magliano, as it has attracted attention not only to his label but also to the queer-libertarian community it represents. This season’s collection showcased a newfound sense of tranquility, featuring silk embroidered linings, draped silk fabrics, and luxurious, silk-printed T-shirts infused with a touch of irony.

JordanLuca, founded by Jordan Bowen and Luca Marchetto in 2018, continued to push boundaries with their Spring/Summer 2024 collection. The label’s signature elements, such as rose stem kilts and double-collared shirts, were taken to the extreme, creating awe-inspiring looks. The collection also introduced internally created eyewear and jewelry, including 3D-printed silver accessories. The brand’s slightly subversive punk spirit was evident in their accessories, such as sharp pins and mule sandals with daringly plunging heels. Kilts were reimagined as elegant pencil dresses and gowns, while the brand’s distinctive “bulldog” silhouette was showcased in jackets and shirts with shifted collars and slightly rounded shoulders.

Federico Cina paid homage to his native region, Emilia-Romagna, and its rural landscapes that were devastated by floods in April of the previous year. His collection, aptly named Terra, celebrated the hard work of farmers and the profound connection between the human body and nature. To create a unique sensory experience, each guest at Cina’s show was given an apple to bite into. The collection featured garments made from linen, hemp, and lightweight cotton, lovingly preserving their natural colors and textures. The clothing was adorned with marks of the earth, including orange streaks and darker edges, giving the impression of being “soiled by the soil itself.” Comfort and freshness were effortlessly infused into the collection through deconstructed suits, oversized jackets, and pants with drawstrings.

These three emerging labels captivated audiences at Milan Fashion Week with their distinct styles and innovative approaches to fashion. Magliano, Jordanluca, and Federico Cina have undoubtedly solidified their positions as rising stars in the fashion world, and their Spring/Summer 2024 collections have unequivocally established their place among the best in the industry. As the fashion landscape continues to evolve, these designers are undoubtedly ones to watch for their unique visions and valuable contributions to the industry.
