Effortless Elegance: Hermès Unveils Exquisite Menswear Collection at UNESCO

Effortless elegance took center stage at UNESCO this Saturday as Hermès unveiled their exquisite menswear collection. In an industry often associated with youth, Véronique Nichanian, the creative director for Hermès menswear, has defied expectations by maintaining her position for an impressive 35 years. Her longevity can be attributed to her exceptional design skills, which surpass those of many other designers in the fashion world.

Nichanian’s collections speak volumes on their own, as she lets her designs do the talking. This season, we witnessed a seamless blend of sporty elegance, nonchalant charm, and self-assured style. A notable aspect of her designs was the meticulous attention to detail in the necklines and collars. She expertly incorporated funnel necks into hybrid peacoat and donkey jacket combinations, flawlessly merging hiker’s rain-gear necklines with cashmere city blousons, and embellishing woolen sweaters with mini plaquettes and firemen fasteners.

The result was a collection that radiated natural sophistication and warmth for the winter season. Not only were the designs impeccable, but the tailoring was also of the highest quality. Stunning coats, including jaunting redingotes and a remarkable field marshal’s coat with additional peacoat pockets, were complemented by roomy suits featuring wide-leg trousers paired with expansive double-breasted jackets. Leather pants added a touch of elegance and rockstar allure to the collection.

The color palette predominantly consisted of dark shades, with charcoal, gravel, fog, caramel, camel, navy, and ivory dominating the collection. Nichanian opted for noble and innovative materials like calfskin, sheepskin, water repellent cashmere, technical satin, rubberized lambskin, and spinnaker canvas. Monochromatic shades were showcased throughout the collection, occasionally adorned with fringed silk scarves and creatively embroidered sweaters and twin sets.

Nichanian drew inspiration from the UNESCO complex itself, finding beauty in its clean lines and shapes that symbolize light and harmony. The architectural splendor of the venue elevated the collection even further, enhancing the poetic essence of Nichanian’s designs. The collection also incorporated current menswear trends, such as tractor tire boots, which Hermès transformed into booted monks with substantial soles.

However, the only drawback to this exceptional collection is its affordability. The use of noble materials and superior craftsmanship means that these garments may be out of reach for most young men. It is unfortunate that such modern, classy, and distinguished designs are not accessible to a wider audience. Nonetheless, for those who value quality and style over fleeting social media trends, Hermès’ collection by Véronique Nichanian stands as the epitome of contemporary menswear today.
