Edinburgh’s Ocean Terminal Transformation into Porta: A New Premier Outlet Centre

Edinburgh’s Ocean Terminal is on track for a major makeover, poised to emerge as a premier outlet centre slated to debut in the third quarter of 2019. The iconic shopping hub, under the ownership of Resolution Property, is gearing up for a grand rebrand under the moniker of Porta, featuring a fresh lineup of high-end and sought-after brands. As a beacon of hope amid the prevailing challenges grappling the high street and conventional shopping complexes, outlet centres are standing out as a shining star in the realm of UK retail.

The strategic shift in Ocean Terminal’s positioning is happening amidst a flurry of activity within the premium outlet sector. With the recent inauguration of a new outlet venue at the illustrious O2 arena in London and substantial investments by market giant McArthurGlen in novel designer outlets and expansions, the UK outlet industry is witnessing an upward trajectory.

Resolution Property’s move to revamp Ocean Terminal as a premium outlet destination mirrors the escalating demand for such a shopping experience in Scotland. Building on the success of existing premium outlet centers in countries such as Germany, France, and Denmark, Resolution Property is eyeing to harness the surge in visitor footfall and introduce a fresh retail venture for the Scottish shopper.

Porta aspires to present a distinctive fusion of retail, leisure, and entertainment alternatives to draw in a diverse pool of customers. Spanning an extensive 407,000 square feet, the centre will house beloved amenities like its 12-screen Vue Cinema and popular dining establishments like Wagamama and Zizzi. Complementing the leisure spectrum are offerings from PureGym and the skatepark, aimed at enriching the outlet center’s recreational options.

Shane Scott, a partner at Resolution Property, has voiced his anticipation for the novel outlet concept, affirming that it is poised to revolutionize the current retail landscape at Ocean Terminal. By seamlessly blending value and experience, Porta is primed to cement its position as one of Scotland’s premier outlet destinations. The resounding call from existing tenants for such an outlet experience further bolsters the decision to rebrand Ocean Terminal, aligning it with the evolving preferences of consumers. With a keen eye on premium labels and an unparalleled shopping experience, Porta is all set to redefine the retail panorama in Edinburgh.
