eBay UK Experiences Surge in Searches for Pre-Loved Fashion

eBay UK is experiencing a significant rise in searches for “pre-loved fashion” on its platform, thanks to its collaboration with the hit TV show Love Island. Compared to last year when the partnership first began, eBay has witnessed a surge of more than 1,400% in searches for pre-loved fashion items during the current series.

Love Island contestants have been spotted wearing pre-loved items from an eBay villa wardrobe, inspiring viewers to seek out similar looks. The range of items available includes bomber jackets, maxi dresses, and co-ordinates. Amy Bannerman, eBay’s Pre-Loved Fashion Stylist, expressed her excitement about this shifting consumer behavior, suggesting that it marks a significant change in the fashion industry.

Interestingly, the most searched-for brands on eBay’s platform include both established labels like Ralph Lauren and Levi’s, as well as fashion-forward brands such as Acne Studios, JW Anderson, Mki Miyuki, Mugler, and Dries Van Noten. This development is noteworthy, as eBay’s focus on pre-loved fashion enables it to showcase its position as a platform for high-end fashion. In previous Love Island collaborations, the emphasis was primarily on mass-market brands.

Ralph Lauren has proven to be particularly popular during this series, with its show-worn Varsity Jacket receiving over 1,872 searches per day on eBay. Additionally, eBay’s ‘Authenticity Guaranteed’ program, which verifies sneakers priced at £100 or more through experts, has contributed to a surge in searches for Nike. The Nike White and Grey High Top Dunks worn on the show have notably caught the attention of shoppers, resulting in 1.04 searches per minute and 1,479 searches per day.

Reiss and House of CB are among the other brands experiencing increased searches on eBay. Reiss items have garnered an average of 1,152 searches per day, while House of CB receives around 360 daily searches. Shoppers have been particularly drawn to items such as Reiss’ purple long-sleeve knit, a black shirt with white edging, and a polo grey bomber jacket. Similarly, House of CB’s coral midi dress, long light-brown leg slit dress, and brown corseted piece have been in high demand.

Kirsty Keoghan, the Global GM of Fashion at eBay, expressed her delight with the growing interest in pre-loved fashion and the wide range of top brands available on the platform. She hopes that this shift towards conscious shopping will continue to gain momentum.

eBay’s collaboration with Love Island is continuously highlighting the show’s influence on fashion trends. The surge in searches for pre-loved fashion items underscores the increasing demand for sustainable and affordable choices in the fashion industry. By expanding its range of high-end brands and authenticating popular sneaker styles, eBay solidifies its position as a go-to destination for fashion-conscious shoppers.
