Discover the Sustainable Development Goals – To Power the Decade of Action

The United Nations, in collaboration with key players in the fashion industry, is excited to announce a groundbreaking sustainability event scheduled to run from December 1 to December 30, 2020. Spearheaded by The Conscious Fashion Campaign, headed by social entrepreneur Kerry Bannigan and with strong support from the United Nations Office for Partnerships, this month-long virtual event is aptly titled ‘Discover the Sustainable Development Goals – To Power the Decade of Action.’

The primary goal of this event is to raise awareness and promote active involvement within the global fashion industry to champion the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – a comprehensive framework of 17 goals designed to bring about positive change in the world. The event will showcase an immersive online exhibit that delves into the SDGs, offering a wealth of informative resources and engaging discussions tailored specifically for the fashion sector.

Notable industry giants such as Kering, Lenzing, Allbirds, PVH, Vogue Business, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), the British Fashion Council, Messe Frankfurt, Collina Strada, and the Swarovski Foundation are among the key participants set to contribute to the event. Furthermore, a distinguished lineup of speakers from various sectors, including renowned fashion designers, industry leaders, and media personalities, will share their valuable insights and expertise.

Marking a significant milestone in the fashion landscape, this event aims to drive a paradigm shift in the industry by exploring the vital intersection between the SDGs and the fashion business. Critical themes such as climate action, gender equality, innovation, digitalization, land preservation, and sustainable production and consumption will take center stage in discussions throughout the event.

Annemarie Hou, the acting executive director of the United Nations Office for Partnerships, underlined the crucial role of partnerships in addressing global issues and pointed to the fashion industry as a key partner in achieving the SDGs by the target year of 2030. The event is proudly supported by Arch and Hook, Artistic Milliners, and Lenzing, with additional backing from Interwoven, ITL Group, and Orta.
