Dior’s ‘Inside the Dream’ documentary offers a captivating look into the world of perfumer Francis Kurkdjian. Directed by Matthieu Menu, the film takes viewers on a journey alongside Kurkdjian as he travels to various destinations, including the stunning gardens of La Colle Noire castle, the temples of Japan, and the jasmine fields of India. This in-depth exploration of his experiences provides a unique insight into the creative process behind Dior’s iconic fragrances.

Originally intended to document the process of creating a Dior fashion collection, the focus of the documentary shifted to Kurkdjian after a conversation with Olivier Bialobos, the deputy managing director in charge of global communication and image of Dior. This change allowed the film to delve deep into Kurkdjian’s creative journey and offer an intimate glimpse into his work at Dior.

In addition to Kurkdjian, the documentary also features appearances by Dior’s global brand ambassador Charlize Theron and creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri. The crew was granted access to film a runway show and interview key figures within the brand, shining a spotlight on the prestigious label and its prominent figures.

‘Inside the Dream’ follows Kurkdjian’s path from his early days at the Dior offices in central Paris to the grand unveiling of the new J’adore perfume at the National School of Fine Arts in September. Throughout the film, viewers witness Kurkdjian’s meticulous research, his exploration of different scents, and his meetings with the Dior Parfums management team to discuss the fragrance’s development.

The documentary aims to provide an authentic portrayal of the pressure, doubt, and success that Kurkdjian experiences during this creative process. By offering a personal perspective, viewers are able to connect with his journey and gain a deeper understanding of the world of fragrance design.

Kurkdjian himself expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share the story of perfume through film.
