Dior Men’s Future Civilization for Today: A Blend of Art and Fashion

In a stunning display of creativity and innovation, Dior’s menswear show for Spring/Summer 2020, under the direction of Kim Jones, brought together the worlds of art and fashion in a truly groundbreaking way. Held on a bustling Paris street, the show featured a collaboration with contemporary artist Daniel Arsham, whose work on deconstruction and decay served as a central theme for the collection.

Drawing inspiration from Arsham’s ‘Future Relics’ series, the Dior collection explored the concept of obsolescence and decay while maintaining a fresh and modern aesthetic. The color palette, featuring light concrete shades, provided a unique twist on the traditional Monsieur Dior grey. The runway itself was transformed into a work of art with massive broken concrete letters spelling out “DIOR” on a bed of grey sand, setting the stage for a truly unforgettable show.

Jones seamlessly blended Dior’s rich history with a contemporary vision, incorporating elements of sportswear with couture influences. The reintroduction of the ‘Oblique’ motif by Marc Bohan in collaboration with Rimowa showcased Jones’ ability to combine luxury with practicality, creating covetable items like suitcases and hand cases.

From hand-painted Egyptian blue toile de jouy pieces to the introduction of men’s hijabs in elegant color combinations, every detail in the collection reflected Jones’ meticulous craftsmanship. The show, held in a tent near the Seine River, featured a color scheme of off-white, pink, and light grey that perfectly complemented the cracked logos seen on the backstage staff’s boiler-suits.

Overall, Kim Jones’ Dior Men’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection perfectly captured the essence of Dior in a modern context, offering a vision of future civilization that resonates with today’s discerning fashion enthusiasts. By merging historical influences, cutting-edge materials, and contemporary aesthetics, Jones has once again proven himself as a master of his craft.
