Diesel’s Debut in Milan Fashion Week

Diesel, the renowned denim brand, is preparing to make its debut in the fashion capital of Milan with its first-ever runway show in February. The brand, which is known for its premium Diesel Black Gold line, has previously held shows in Milan but this time it’s the core denim label that will take the spotlight. The decision to showcase the denim label follows the appointment of avant-garde Belgian designer Glenn Martens as Diesel’s creative director last year. Martens, who also presents his collections for Y/Project in Paris, brings a fresh perspective to the brand.

In an official press release, Diesel proudly announced its inclusion in the Milan Fashion Week (womenswear) calendar for the Fall/Winter 2022 show season. This marks Diesel’s first participation in the womenswear segment of Milan Fashion Week. The highly anticipated show is scheduled to open the fashion week on February 23 at 1PM. It will feature the second collection designed by Martens for Diesel’s women’s and menswear lines. Additionally, Diesel has plans to present its Spring/Summer 2023 collection in Milan in September.

Diesel’s decision to show in Milan is seen as a positive development for the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI). In recent years, CNMI has experienced a decline in the size of its fashion week due to the growing popularity of coed shows and the desire of iconic Italian fashion houses to break away from the traditional fashion calendar during the pandemic. However, Diesel is not the only brand returning to Milan next season. Other prominent names, including Gucci and Bottega Veneta, have also confirmed their participation.

Meanwhile, DSquared2, known for presenting its menswear and womenswear collections during men’s fashion weeks in January and June, is changing its strategy. The brand has decided to showcase its collections separately again. Designers Dean and Dan Caten expressed concerns that their womenswear collection had lost visibility by being presented ahead of women’s fashion week. In line with their beliefs, DSquared2 will unveil its next winter collections through two shows – one for menswear in January and another for womenswear in February.

In addition, CNMI has partnered with Valentino to highlight a young Italian designer through the renowned fashion house’s social media channels every season, with a particular focus on Instagram. The collaboration will commence in February, with Marco Rambaldi being selected as the first guest designer.

CNMI President Carlo Capasa has also announced a new parallel project aimed at fostering synergies during Milan Fashion Week. This project involves a partnership between CNMI, research platform White, and Confartigianato Imprese, an employer association that brings together Italian artisan businesses. With the support of ICE, the Italian agency promoting Italian companies globally, the partnership aims to coordinate initiatives and services to attract a large number of international buyers to Italy. The collaborative program will select and invite over 1,200 top buyers to Milan during the upcoming February fashion week, providing them with various services to facilitate their work.
