Designers Reimagine Cinderella’s Glass Slipper

On Friday, February 13th, a group of nine acclaimed designers will come together to pay homage to the beloved fairytale Cinderella. This special tribute is in honor of the upcoming release of Kenneth Branagh’s film adaptation of the classic story on March 13th. Walt Disney’s animation production team approached these designers and requested their unique interpretations of Cinderella’s iconic glass slipper. Each designer has dedicated their time and creativity to reimagining this beloved symbol, resulting in fresh and captivating perspectives.

The primary objective behind this collaboration is to revitalize the image of one of Disney’s most iconic heroines, infusing her story with a touch of luxury and elegance. David Lee, the director of shoes at The Walt Disney Company EMEA, described Cinderella’s glass slipper as “the magical symbol of transformation”, and emphasized that each pair of shoes in this collection embodies the grace and elegance of the princess herself.

This ambitious initiative involves the participation of nine notable designers, including Paul Andrew, the winner of CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund 2014. Alexandre Birman, a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and the renowned shoe house René Caovilla are also among the talented designers who have joined forces for this project. Additionally, Jimmy Choo and Salvatore Ferragamo, two esteemed names in the fashion industry, have contributed their unique interpretations of the glass slipper. Charlotte Olympia, Stuart Weitzman, Nicholas Kirkwood, and Jérôme C. Rousseau have also created their own enchanting editions of the iconic shoe.

The creations from these designers will be unveiled during the prestigious Berlin Film Festival on Friday, February 13th, coinciding with the premiere of Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella. Following the event, the exclusive glass shoes will be made available for purchase at select retailers, with one of the locations being the renowned Galeries Lafayette in Paris.
