Debenhams, now under the ownership of Boohoo Group, is taking significant steps to target fast growth by launching a new marketplace platform. With the assistance of renowned SaaS provider Mirakl, Debenhams has successfully become the largest marketplace in the UK for fashion, beauty, sport, and homeware. This move allows Debenhams to adapt to the ever-changing demands of customers by swiftly expanding its range of products, with an impressive 70,000 new items added in just three months.

The introduction of the marketplace platform represents a new era of digital commerce for Debenhams. It empowers the retailer to cater to shifting customer preferences while staying true to the essence of the Debenhams brand. By leveraging the technology, expertise, and seller ecosystem offered by Mirakl, Debenhams aims to propel its digital transformation forward. Jo Graham, the Chief Information Officer of Boohoo Group, emphasizes the critical nature of this partnership in keeping the brand at the forefront of the digital-first world of commerce.

Thanks to the marketplace platform, Debenhams can rapidly onboard new brands while expanding its existing relationships with both Boohoo and Debenhams brands. Since its launch, the retailer has already introduced approximately 200 new brands on the platform, with new suppliers and brands joining on a weekly basis.

Debenhams already enjoys 300 million visits to its UK website annually and boasts a strong presence in the skincare and makeup sectors. With the marketplace launch, the retailer aims to establish leadership in other categories as well. This move to adopt the marketplace model aligns with industry trends, and Mirakl has been working with multiple retailers in the UK to implement this strategy. Companies such as Decathlon UK, Feelunique, Harvey Nichols, H&M Home, Joules, and Turner Price are currently powered by Mirakl.

Debenhams’ drive to become the largest marketplace in the UK is a testament to its commitment to growth and innovation in the digital realm. With the support of Mirakl, the retailer is well-equipped to capitalize on evolving customer demands, expand its product offerings, and simultaneously maintain its established brand identity.
