Daniel Lee appointed as Head of Collections at Burberry

British designer Daniel Lee, known for his successful tenure at Bottega Veneta, has been announced as the new head of collections at Burberry, replacing Riccardo Tisci. The Burberry Spring-Summer 2023 show, which took place on September 27th in London, marked Tisci’s farewell as creative director. The luxury brand released a statement the day after the show, revealing Tisci’s departure after nearly five years in the role. The statement also highlighted Tisci’s contributions in revitalizing the brand’s image, which was established in 1856.

Daniel Lee will officially assume his new position on October 3rd, bringing his highly sought-after talent to Burberry after his surprise exit from Bottega Veneta in the previous year. Prior to his time at Bottega Veneta, Lee had gained experience at renowned fashion houses including Celine, Maison Margiela, Balenciaga, and Donna Karan. During his tenure at Bottega Veneta, Lee played a key role in driving the brand’s growth, particularly in the handbags, shoes, and accessories categories.

This appointment signifies a new chapter in Burberry’s modernization strategy under the guidance of businessman Marco Gobbetti. Gobbetti recently took over as the CEO of Salvatore Ferragamo and entrusted the leadership of Burberry to Jonathan Akeroyd, the former CEO of Gianni Versace SpA.

Jonathan Akeroyd, CEO of Burberry, expressed his excitement about working with Daniel Lee and emphasized the designer’s exceptional talent, understanding of the luxury consumer, and record of commercial success. Akeroyd believes that Lee’s appointment aligns with Burberry’s ambitions for the future and expects him to have a significant impact in this new phase, supported by the brand’s experienced teams.

Fashion enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting Daniel Lee’s debut collection for Burberry, which is scheduled to be showcased during London Fashion Week in February 2023. The collaboration between the esteemed designer and the iconic British luxury brand has generated high anticipation within the industry.
